FAIRFIELD, Alabama — Fairfield police this afternoon identified a man found shot to death in an alley near Miles College as 28-year-old Nathaniel Williams, Jr.

A statement released by Chief Leon Davis, said Williams was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head at about 9:15 this morning in an alley in the 500 block between 55th and 56th Street.

“Evidence gathered in and around the scene indicated the victim had been placed at that location by unknown suspect” or suspects, the statement read.

Williams was reported missing to the Birmingham Police Department on Wednesday at 10:55 pm, from his home at 320 Oakmont St.

Blood was found in front of the residence and witnesses also reported hearing gun shots in that area Wednesday night.

Homicide detectives from Fairfield and Birmingham are working to identify suspects and motives.

McCALLA, Alabama — A 24-year-old McCalla man was killed in an ATV crash this afternoon, just two hours after he got the ATV, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The accident happened about 3 p.m. the 3500 block of Lindsey Loop Road in McCalla.

“The investigation indicated that the victim and his 19-year-old brother had been riding the new ATV in a pasture near their home. The 24-year-old was driving. He lost control of the vehicle and it flipped. Both he and his brother were ejected,” a sheriff’s office statement read.

The driver was killed, the brother was not injured. Neither were using seat belts or helmets.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending until his family is notified.
